Preserving Your Legacy: Understanding Film Services at Pix Plaza Studio
At Pix Plaza Studio, we remain dedicated to helping you capture and preserve your most precious memories. While we have transitioned our operations and no longer develop raw film in-house, we continue to be a vital resource for customers looking to bring their existing physical archives into the modern age.
It is important to understand the technical distinction between film developing and digitizing, as many of our clients often have developed negatives or slides that are ready for our professional digital services.
Developing vs. Digitizing: What is the Difference?
Understanding these two distinct stages of the photographic process will help you determine how we can best assist you.
- Film Developing (The Chemical Process)
Developing is the initial chemical process that transforms light-sensitive film or slides into visible images. This must be done in total darkness using specific chemical baths (developer, stop bath, and fixer) to “set” the image permanently onto the film strip.
- Status at Pix Plaza: We do not provide this chemical processing service anymore. If you have an undeveloped roll of film (still inside its canister), you will need to send it to a dedicated lab before we can work with it.
- How We Can Still Help You: We can help by sending your film for development, saving you time, hassle, and the risk of exposing your information (contact and financial information) to a third party.
- Film & Slide Digitizing (The Digital Transfer)
Digitizing (or scanning) is the process of taking already-developed negatives or slides and converting them into high-resolution digital files. This allows you to view your old photos on smartphones, share them on social media, or print them using modern technology.
- Status at Pix Plaza: This is where we excel. If your film has already been developed and you are holding negatives or slides, Pix Plaza Studio offers several specialized services to revitalize your collection:
- High-Resolution Scanning: We convert your physical negatives and 35mm slides into clear, high-definition digital images. We follow a rigorous, time-consuming process to produce the finest professional results; therefore, we may limit the number of negatives and slide we process in a single order. If you have boxes of slides or negatives to be digitized, we can lend you a simple machine to do the first step of the process at home saving you a considerable portion of cost. The quality is not going to match what we do professionally in the studio, so you may want to separate the most precious photos for in-studio processing.
- Photo Restoration: Our experts can take faded, scratched, or damaged images and digitally restore them to their original glory using advanced techniques.
- Professional Printing: Once digitized, we can print your memories onto high-quality paper or create custom photo books and albums.
- Creative Content Creation: For professional or commercial projects, we can integrate your digitized archives into new video productions, digital designs, and commercial publications.
- Status at Pix Plaza: This is where we excel. If your film has already been developed and you are holding negatives or slides, Pix Plaza Studio offers several specialized services to revitalize your collection:
